Firm & Founder

Roshan (Advocates & Solicitors) is a Malaysian law firm established in 2013. We help individuals and businesses navigate legal problems from criminal charges to commercial disputes and workplace issues with practical advice and strong representation in court.

The firm is led by its founder and proprietor, Mr. Roshan Selvaratnam. Mr. Roshan was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in January 2012, qualifying him to advise clients and represent them in the Malaysian courts.

He graduated from the University of the West of England, Bristol, in 2009 and was called to the English Bar in 2010, meaning he is also qualified as a barrister in England and Wales. He is a member of The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple (UK), The Malaysia Middle Temple Alumni Association, and the Inns of Court Malaysia.

Our Services

  • If you are being investigated, have been arrested, or have been charged with an offence, we defend your rights at every stage from the police station to trial. Mr. Roshan has represented clients facing charges under a wide range of Malaysian laws, including the Penal Code, the Dangerous Drugs Act, the Immigration Act, the Road Transport Act, anti-corruption and anti-money laundering laws, anti-trafficking laws, computer crime laws, and laws on dangerous weapons and explosives.

  • This covers disputes between people, between businesses, or between the two, that are resolved through the courts. We act for clients across many types of disputes, including:

    •     Company and shareholder disputes — such as breach of directors’ duties (where directors fail in their legal responsibilities to the company), minority oppression (where shareholders in control treat minority shareholders unfairly), derivative actions (a claim brought on a company’s behalf when the wrongdoers are the ones in control), and fraudulent trading (running a business in a way that cheats creditors).

    •     Contract disputes — including breach of contract (when one side fails to honour an agreement) and misrepresentation (being misled into an agreement by false statements).

    •     Reputation and information — such as defamation (damage to reputation through false statements) and breach of confidence (the misuse of confidential information shared in trust).

    •     Money claims — including unjust enrichment (recovering money or a benefit that someone gained unfairly at your expense).

    •     Property disputes — such as landlord and tenant disagreements, trespass (unlawful entry onto land), nuisance (interference with the use and enjoyment of property), and occupier’s liability (a property owner’s responsibility for injuries suffered on their premises).

    •     Business and conduct disputes — including unlawful interference with trade, conspiracy to injure (two or more people working together to cause harm), abuse of process and malicious prosecution (the misuse of legal proceedings for an improper purpose), and negligence (harm caused by careless conduct).

    •     Company rescue — including judicial management, a court-supervised process to help financially distressed companies.

  • We advise and represent clients on workplace disputes, and we act for both companies and employees. Our work in this area covers wrongful dismissal (being dismissed in breach of the law or the employment contract), constructive dismissal (where an employee is forced to resign because of the employer’s conduct), and domestic inquiries (the internal disciplinary hearings a company holds before taking action against an employee).
